As you get deeper into your  business you will have new vendors like your bank or a credit agency that will want to know your Federal Employer Identification Number. If you don't have a FEIN then you will have to use your Social Security Number for these business applications. Switch to a  FEIN number. It is easy to get and is used for this purpose of identifying your business without the use of your personal Social Security Number. 

Below are the two links you will need to apply for a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN or also known as an EIN number).

Here is the quick version for those of you who have not read the instructions:

You  just need to fill out the SS4 form and then call the phone number in the instructions to become registered. The whole process should take about 10 minutes.

When you call into the IRS office the operator will ask you "...what is on line #1 of the SS4 Form, what is on line #2 of the SS4 Form, etc." 

The number to call the IRS is: 1-800-829-4933.
